Special Edition: Portraits & People

Today I’m posting a special edition of the NYC Weekly. Honestly, it’s been harding committing to making updates to this site but the NYC Weekly has been simple enough to keep me honest. I’ve been keeping these going since the beginning of June and I’m feeling pretty good. As I get more comfortable with these, I plan to make new “days of the week” where you can expect new content, but for now - we’re tagging this as a special feature.

So let’s talk about how this started - I work in a really great location with some really creative people and sometimes we go on photowalks to help each other practice our portrait skills. These have been so incredibly helpful in getting me to practice, involve more humans in my shots, and understand what I want in a shot. I’ve always said that I’m attracted to photography because I don’t really have to create anything with it; I’m just framing things that already exist and are beautiful. But because I have that mindset, I really don’t know what I want in a picture until I’m editing it. So the photowalks kind of give me the best of both worlds - I get to learn from other creatives around me and what they gravitate to, but because I’m also forced to model I learn how to move my body and how to direct someone later to make a shot that feels more dynamic.

Anyway, this week I took a walk with Laurence (www.laurencecruz.photos). Test Engineer, fellow Filipino, and awesome all around creative guy. He’s one of the regulars on our photowalks. Here’s what I ended up with:

And, since we’re here - Let’s take a look at these new profile worthy pics that got snapped of me!
